Hello friends, family, strangers, and stalkers!
It is official!!! As of yesterday around 6pm EST I accepted my position with AmeriCorps Alaska! My training begins September 6th. Until then I'll be working on graduating, moving out of Kalamazoo, and making my last impact on WMU as the Fall Welcome Intern. My position with Fall Welcome goes until September 3rd and I will likely get on a plane directly from Fall Welcome and be in Alaska before I can say, "Is that Russia outside my window?"
I've got to say, this summer has been a wild ride. First of all, graduating is SCARY! Holy cannoli, all I keep thinking is, "Wait, no football season next year? No first day of classes? No student loans? I need to be independent!? Oh dear Lord." However, as things seem to be falling into place I'm getting more and more comfortable with what my future holds! My mantra is, this is my time to have an adventure! And what better place to have an adventure than Alaska, land of the Palins, snow, moose, and igloos!
The best part of this whole deal is that while I am in Alaska I get to be with my best friend (AKA: My sister Issa) and her beautiful girlfriend Jaime- both whom I miss like CRAZY! Issa has been serving for AmeriCorps since this past New Years and will be working with them again next year. She is one of the main reasons I decided to go out for AmeriCorps, and I am SO thankful I have her footprints in the snow to help guide my way!
My next steps is getting an FBI background check (eeeeh!), getting fingerprints taken, and filling out some paperwork. Thank goodness I've got a fax at my beck and call in the FYE office.
I'm going to miss Michigan and all my amazing friends and family I'll be leaving behind, so I will be taking the time I have left here this summer and living it up! I'll keep you all updated on my progress and adventures! This is all getting so real and I love it. Love to all of you, Olive Juice, Dumela, Merp, and Lurve!
Alaska Fun Fact: Alaska has 29 volcanos.
